Product description
The 7140 screw is a short, self-tapping bi-metal screw designed to join trapezoidal sheets together. Unlike the fixing screws that connect the sheet metal to the substructure, this seam screw joins two overlapping sheets at the longitudinal seam. In doing so, it seals the sheet joint and prevents the overlap from gaping.

Typical applications
The 7140 screw is used wherever two trapezoidal sheets are to be joined together at the seam. Typical applications include:
- Joining trapezoidal sheets at the longitudinal overlap
- Closing the seam between two overlapping sheets
- Use on walls and roofs
- Outdoor applications and indoor areas with high humidity
The screw is designed as a self-drilling A2 bi-metal screw with a reduced drill tip and an accompanying A2 sealing washer. It is available in a length of 20 mm and is designed for material thicknesses of 0.63 to 2.5 mm, suitable for the overlap between two sheets. For roof applications, it is approved with and without a cap.
When should you choose this screw?
The 7140 screw is the right choice when two trapezoidal sheets are to be joined at the seam. For fixing the sheets to the steel substructure, however, the 7110, 7120 or 7130 screws are intended, graded according to the thickness of the supporting structure. For sandwich panels, the longer panel screws, such as the 7565, are suitable. You can find an overview of all screws in the ‘Screws’ category.
Matching products
Screw 7140 is used in conjunction with profiled sheets. Suitable products:
- Trapezoidal sheets for roofs and walls: Trapezoidal sheet range.
- Fixing screws for connecting the sheets to the substructure, such as the 7110 screw.
- Cap screws for use on roofs.

Frequently asked questions
How does the 7140 screw differ from the 7110 to 7130 screws?
The 7140 screw connects two trapezoidal sheets together at the seam. The 7110, 7120 and 7130 screws, on the other hand, secure the sheet to the steel substructure. The screws therefore fulfil different functions and are often used together.
What is a seam screw used for?
At the longitudinal overlap between two sheets, the seam screw ensures that the sheets lie firmly together and that the seam does not gape. This keeps the joint watertight and wind-resistant.
What lengths are the screws available in?
The 7140 screw is available in a short length of 20 mm with a sealing washer, suitable for joining two overlapping sheets. We’d be happy to advise you on the right choice.
Do I need a cap on the roof?
For roof applications, the screw is approved for use with or without a cap. A cap is used when the screw is positioned in the high rib to improve contact. We’d be happy to advise you on the correct type to use.
